Editors note-As I write this I just returned from Vacation where my only place to exercise was in a "Big Box" Setting. Rows of cardio equipment and machines. As I faced the unbearable boredom of the exercise bike and machines, my mind rushed to the reason we opened Fitness One in the First Place…To provide a true Fitness alternative to our members. Thus, this blog was born. Sometimes I just need to say it like it is, and as I witnessed all of this once more, I had to vent :)
The time of the year is rapidly approaching where we make that all so important vow to ourselves-This will be the year we finally get in shape, achieve our Fitness and weight loss goals and keep them throughout the year.
Unfortunately for so many this goal has been unattainable for years. The intention for Fitness is good, but the lack of the how, when and where leave them frustrated quitting their programs within the first 3-5 weeks. At our Kernersville location, we have people from all over the area come to us from their Big Box Gym all with the same problem. Bored, no results, plateau in goals, stuck in long contracts and just plain frustrated. Sticking with Fitness and Weight Loss seems to be just impossible to reach.
At Allen Branch's Fitness One Training Systems things are a little different. We have a nearly 94% Retention rate of members-explaining why we have enjoyed 17 months in a row of straight growth. Our Fitness and Weight Loss programs are done differently than any other gym, and although we are frequently copied and imitated, unless you know the system it really wont matter. From the Big box gym to the extreme training centers, it seems to us they are all just missing the bigger picture. We have learned something very important that every person should know, and everyone reading this should appreciate our stand.
1-Owning a Fitness Center should not be about padding our wallets, but losing your extra padding.

If we feel like they are here just to have a job, They are working at the wrong place. Our purpose is to help each person reach their genetic potential-It's all about you, thats why you come here.
3-Check your ego and biceps at the door
We have every level and age of person at Fitness One. From the 4 year old "Little ninja" to the 78 year old Bootcamp participant, and all of the weekend warriors and professional athletes in between. We have nothing to prove by pushing you to hard, by injuring you or making you so sore you cant move. We have the toughest workouts anywhere-But they are all at each persons level so that is safe, effective and fun.
So our secret to weight loss and fitness? It really isn't that hard to figure out. It is just making it work and sticking with it that is the tricky part. Of course we are not going to give away the Fitness One Formula, although we are frequently "Visited" by other facilities in the area trying to gain hold of this information. We will however offer some valuable tips to making your goals.

Get off the treadmill and cardio equipment!
Not only incredibly ineffective compared to functional based training but insanely boring, and very hard on the joints. The repetitive nature of this form of exercise is a guaranteed recipe for injury, many times sustained and it isn't even fun to do!

Get on the Circuit Train!
And we don't mean walking from machine to machine, this is not circuit training. Machines make your workouts ineffective and slow down progress. Circuit training is also not random-Do 200 jumping jacks, sprint here, run there-There should be a system not a "workout of the day" one size fits all program.

You cannot out train bad nutrition
Yep-No more fads. Paleo, Adkins, no carb, low carb, Jenny, slimfast, watchers-How many people do you know who actually STAYED with one of these programs? Many of them are great but it boils down to what you do from now on. Are you going to make the change and get it done, or keep bouncing from meal plan to meal plan? We have to get a check on the amount of food in vs. What we are burning-And this requires a little discipline!
The secrets are out?
These aren't really secrets, but in a sense they are... Secret in the fact that gyms and trainers may NOT want you to know how to really get in shape. Your results may mean you quit and move on…Or better yet you will fulfill your long contract and never even use it.
Don't you think there is a reason you keep getting a "Only $10 per month" flyer in the mail? it's only $10, so what are you really losing? You might go to the gym… But you won't, and when 5,000 people all throw there money in the pot, and not show up, money is made for doing nothing. But if the deal is good enough, they say there is one born every minute…Are you padding a wallet, or loosing your padding?
Many Personal Trainers are inexperienced or charge high fees for training. Then many become "rep counters." You do not need someone to tell you how to use a machine, and you can read the little placard and can count to 15. Many gym trainers are simply counting your reps, and your money. Now Trainers can get a certification in a single weekend!
Diet plans and weight loss gimmicks are one of the largest industries in the U.S. With 3 out of 10 obese, and 7 out of 10 not in any type of condition, the end is nowhere in sight, and gyms are definitely not helping the problem.

Get up, get moving. Eat smart, and clean. Learn how to do exercises correctly, get on a schedule. Find accountability so that you will stay on track.
